ONLINE: Bag Making Workshop with Sandra Johnson

Join us for an online bag making workshop with artist Sandra Johnson. We have been having a great time working with Sandra via online classes this summer. Her work is amazing and her optimism and spirit are infectious! In this workshop, she will show you how to create your own one-of-a-kind quilted tote. She will share her tips and tricks that will make bag making your new favorite thing to do!

Make a bag that will have people stopping you on the street and asking you where you got it! For this workshop, Sandra has developed a bag pattern that can incorporate sashiko-stitched pieces from her previous workshops, or your kit will include a "cheater" print that mimics the look of sashiko stitching. (You could even stitch on top of the print to add interest!) The bag featured on the left is made with the cheater print. The bag on the right is made with a sashiko stenciled piece.

Skill level: Must know how to use a sewing machine.

Supplies: As part of the class, you will receive a bag making kit with everything needed to make one tote. You will need to have a working sewing machine that you understand how to use. If you are local to the Bay Area and would like to rent a machine, contact us for more details.

Included in the kit:

• Black canvas - 100% cotton
• Sashiko "cheater" print by Sevenberry Nara Homespun in Denim - 100% cotton
• Lining fabric in Moda Onyx Grunge (reverse is solid black if you prefer to use that side) - 100% cotton
• Navy blue straps - 100% cotton
• Fusible foam interfacing
• 14 Bag making clips
• 1 Sewing machine needle
• Spool of black thread

About the instructor: 

Sandra Johnson started sewing in 7th grade and received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, Textiles, & Clothing from Arizona State University, Tempe. She has been teaching quilting and sewing for 30 years. In 2014, Sandra decided to teach full time and create art and clothing that would appeal to creative people all over the world. Sandra has been featured in several publications, including Simply Moderne (summer 2018 and winter 2019), Altered Couture (2018 - 2019), Haute Handbags (2016-2019), and Apron-ology (2014)

Cancellation Policy:

Class fees are transferable to another class or to studio credit if cancellation is made at least 72 hours before class. If cancellations are made after the 72 hour advance window has passed, we will not be able to issue refunds or studio credits. You can, however transfer the class to a friend. Supply kit fee of $25 and the shipping fee are non-refundable.

If a student arrives 10 minutes or more after the start of class, it is at the discretion of the teacher as to whether the student will be admitted to the Zoom meeting. No refunds or studio credit will be given for late arrivals or no-shows.
