Quilt Preparation Guidelines
To ensure the best outcome for your quilt, please follow these guidelines.
-
Check that your quilt is ready for quilting. Double check that there are no pins. Make sure all seams are secure and clip threads that you don’t want to show through the top.
-
Press quilt top and fold with the seams inside.
-
The back needs to be at least 6 inches larger than the top. So if your quilt top is 30 x 40, then your back should be minimally 36 x 46. The back should be prepped, pressed and folded with seams inside, like the front.
-
Batting also needs to be 6 inches larger than the top. It can be purchased at the studio or you can provide your own.
-
Quilts with puckers, bubbles and wavy borders cannot be quilted flat. To some extent these can be mitigated with quilting, but know that a wavy border will remain wavy. Or a bubble in the middle of the quilt, will remain there to some degree. If you want help making a quilt top lay flatter, we can help troubleshoot with you the best method to do so at an additional cost.
-
If your top or back is pieced to the edge, it is extremely helpful if you top stitch 1/8 - 1/4 inch from the edge in the pieced section to prevent the seams from pulling apart when on the frame.
