Making Pom Poms from Unconventional Materials

Who doesn't love a pom pom?! At the studio, we have found that these Clover Pom Pom Makers are a BIG hit with our camp and afterschool kids. (And we know the adults have fun with them, too!) Because it's not necessarily an obvious process, we made this video to demonstrate how to use the Clover Pom Pom Maker. Once you get the trick, you'll be obsessed with how fun and easy it is to make gorgeous pom poms!

And because we're big into upcycling around here, the video features how to make your pom poms from unconventional materials. While we do often use yarn*, we'll show you how to make your poms from plastic bags or old t-shirts. The process is the same no matter what your material. We encourage you to experiment and see what you come up with!

*We've found that working with a thicker, polyester based yarn leads to a fuller, fluffier pom pom. Bonus -this type of yarn is also usually cheaper. One more hot tip: when you're done with your yarn pom pom and you want to make it fuller and fluffier, brush it gently with a cat or dog brush to fluff it out!

Don't have a Clover Pom Pom Maker yet? You can purchase them in our online shop. We also have complete pom pom kits available! Get ready for hours of pom pom making fun!
