About the Instructor:
Sherri Lynn Wood is an artist and author of The Improv Handbook for Modern Quilters: A Guide to Creating, Quilting & Living Courageously . She loves to teach and has 20 years of experience sharing her work through presentations, demos, and workshops. Her teaching credits include Penland School of Craft (2001,06,12,17), QuiltCon (2013,15,16,17), New Zealand National Symposium (2017), and numerous modern and traditional guilds across the country and internationally.
She offers a unique multi-disciplinary approach to patchwork that doesn’t rely on step-by-step instructions for following a fixed pattern, instead she teaches how to define frameworks for flexible patterns that support exploration and creative flow. Drawing on methods of improvisation from music, theater, drawing, and meditation, as well from their every day life –cooking, child rearing and conversation, she helps students channel this knowledge into their patchwork.
Her students walk away with a comprehensive set of ruler-free sewing techniques, mind tools for accessing creativity, and a broader understanding of improvisational process. They learn how to set boundaries in a way that allows them to confidently relinquish control (and work without a plan), to listen and trust internal cues, to access and enjoy the flow of the present moment, and to create new patterns with an honest voice that is their own.
*Due to the special nature of this workshop, there is a no refund policy for Sherri Lynn's workshop. However, if you cannot attend the class, you may transfer it to a friend.
