Take your sewing to the next level and make your own custom jeans! While sewing jeans seems like it would be scary and hard, it doesn't have to be - and instructor Lauren Taylor is going to show you just how easy (and fun!) it can be! To see more examples from this class, CLICK HERE.
Students will learn how to make jeans using the Ginger Jeans pattern from Closet Case Patterns* - a classic high-rise skinny jean made with stretch denim. We will go over everything you need to know to make a professional looking pair of jeans - choosing the correct size, tips for accurate topstitching, serged seam finishes, an easy fly-front zipper, and installing all that fun hardware! We will kick off the weekend with a half day to choose your size (we will have muslins of the pattern pre-made so you can try them on!) and cutting and marking your denim. Construction will begin on Saturday and go all through the weekend. Please note that while this is not a pants-fitting class, Lauren will cover basic flat pattern alterations and minor fitting adjustments as needed for each individual booty :)
While prior garment experience is not required to take this class (although we encourage you to sew a couple garments beforehand, as you will get so much more out of this class!), you must be comfortable threading and operating a sewing machine.

*You can also use the Cashmerette Ames jeans, if you prefer, but there won't be samples made up for you to try on. For men's jeans, you can use the Thread Theory Jedidiah pattern, which is similar to traditional jeans, but it has slash trouser pockets. Students can redraft the pocket before class if they like, but we won’t have time to cover it in class. We also do not have samples of those pants available to try on.
We will have Happy Hour nibbles on Wednesday evening. Lunch, snacks, tea and coffee will be provided on Thursday and Friday.
