About the Event
This is a 2-Day Weekend Workshop
Dates: Saturday & Sunday, May 18 & 19, 2pm - 5pm
Learn the creative and meditative art of punch needle rug hooking! In this 2 day workshop, you will learn the basics of how to create a hooked rug with a punch-needle tool, yarn, hoop, and monk's cloth. This class will demonstrate the skills to start a small hooked rug of your own design or choose a pre-drawn design that can later be used as a wall hanging, chair cover, or pillow cover.
The skills that you will learn in class, will allow you to expand into larger future projects that will work wonderfully for larger floor carpets and beautiful wall decor. We will explore texture, color, shaped rugs, alternative tools available and how to finish your rug. This very forgiving and gratifying technique enables you to create something that is not only well crafted, but beautiful.
Hello Stitch will provide you with a complete rug hooking kit to get you started, so you just need to bring 4 or 5 balls of yarn - any kind of yarn will do!
Skill level: Beginner
Supplies: Class kit includes punch needle tool, hoop, backing fabric and some yarn. Students are asked to bring 4 or 5 skeins of yarn to use and to share. Any kind of yarn will work! Once you have registered for the class, we will send a link that asks you to pick out what pattern you would like to work on during the workshop. You can see examples of your choices HERE.

While she has been teaching Hooked Rug Making at Creative Growth, the rugs have been shown at the Oakland Airport, Pulse Miami Art Fair, The Moss Design Center in New York, the West Coast Craft Fair in San Francisco, CA. and were featured in Oprah's O Magazine and Paper Magazine. Her own traditionally hooked rug, Foreign Relations, hangs in the collection of the American Embassy in Madagascar.
