About the Event
Let’s blow the lid off of old school applique and open up a whole new world of fabric play. This is a no fuse, no fuss way to layer cheerful colors, shapes and patterns together into whimsical images, then stitch them in place with fun, imperfect stitches. With a few important design concepts, you will see how easy it is to design and create oodles of projects with this technique.
We will work with fabric bits and scraps, recycled materials and ephemera to create playful vignettes that can be added to your fabric book or to create a small, stand alone work of art. You'll learn some basic decorative stitches and other techniques to secure your composition to its fabric background and add an additional layer of fun to your piece. The applique techniques you learn will give you the skill to embellish clothes, textiles, quilts or use in your very own fabric book.
This is the second class in a series to create a one of a kind, beautifully handcrafted fabric book that can be used as a slow-stitch journal, a children's book of texture and color, or an art book filled with your own compositions. You will gain ideas on how to embellish clothes, textiles, quilts or incorporate in your very own fabric book. You can sign up for each of the classes individually or save by signing up for The Making of a Fabric Book which includes all three classes. Whatever you choose, you'll enjoy a creative and fun-filled time.

About the instructor:
Pati Fried studied graphic design in college, but always found herself lingering in the textile department. After graduating and working in corporate marketing for several years, she finally discovered quilting and was hooked. Mixing pattern, color and texture is a perfect fit for her, both as a quilter and a designer. She is a fabric and pattern designer, a popular quilt blogger for See How We Sew, and her work has been featured in quilting magazines.
