Join us for an online visible mending workshop with artist Sandra Johnson. This workshop is guaranteed to be packed with fun! Turn those old jeans full of holes into a piece of art you can walk around in. Sandra is a master at the art of visible mending. Her work is amazing and her optimism and spirit are infectious. During this live, online workshop you will discover the beauty and artistry of turning damaged or worn out clothes into works one of a kind pieces.
In this class, Sandra will teach you how to work with damaged materials to create one of a kind fabric patches, reinforced with decorative sashiko stitching. We will supply you with all of the tools and materials you will need for your "patch kit." Bring your pile of clothes that need patches and we'll dive right in!
This workshop will be recorded and will be made available to class participants for 2 weeks following the lesson.
Skill level: Beginner and up
Supplies: During this class you will need access to fabric scissors, an iron and an ironing board. Your patch kit will include:
- 2 different indigo "cheater" cotton fabric fat quarters
- Fusible web
- Sashiko thread
- One pack of sashiko needles
- Sashiko mini stencil
- Marking pencil
- Leather thimble "dots"

About the instructor:
Sandra Johnson started sewing in 7th grade and received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics, Textiles, & Clothing from Arizona State University, Tempe. She has been teaching quilting and sewing for 30 years. In 2014, Sandra decided to teach full time and create art and clothing that would appeal to creative people all over the world. Sandra has been featured in several publications, including Simply Moderne (summer 2018 and winter 2019), Altered Couture (2018 - 2019), Haute Handbags (2016-2019), and Apron-ology (2014)
Class fees are transferable to another class or to studio credit if cancellation is made at least 72 hours before class. If cancellations are made after the 72 hour advance window has passed, we will not be able to issue refunds or studio credits. You can, however transfer the class to a friend. Supply kit fee of $30 and the shipping fee are non-refundable.
If a student arrives 10 minutes or more after the start of class, it is at the discretion of the teacher as to whether the student will be admitted to the Zoom meeting. No refunds or studio credit will be given for late arrivals or no-shows.
