Interested in learning how to sew your own clothes? You've come to the right place! At Hello Stitch, we have everything you'll need to give garment sewing a try without having to invest big $$ in tools and equipment. In this 3-course series, you will learn everything you need to know to get started on your handmade wardrobe adventure! This is a hybrid course with the first lesson held live, online via Zoom and the subsequent two classes held in person at Hello Stitch.
Class 1: How to Read a Sewing Pattern
February 6, 10am - 1pm: ONLINE
Learn how to:
- Read a sewing pattern, decoding the info on the pattern envelope
- Measure yourself and choosing pattern size
- Understand the symbols and information printed on the pattern pieces
- Choose the right fabric for a pattern
Class 2: Cut Out Your Pattern
February 13, 10am - 2pm: HELLO STITCH STUDIO
Learn how to:
- Cut out a pattern
- Make simple pattern adjustments
- Lay out the fabric
- Properly pin the pattern pieces
- Cut out and mark your fabric
Class 3: Make the Wiksten Shift Top, Tunic, or Dress
February 20, 10am - 2pm: HELLO STITCH STUDIO
Make the Wiksten Shift. You choose which style you prefer: cropped top, above-the-knee dress, or calf-length dress with side slits. Learn how to:
- Thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin
- Sew with a proper seam allowance
- Tips and tricks for better and faster sewing

You've seen a sewing machine before, but you've never played with one, or if you have given it a try, you'd really love a little extra help to make sure you're doing it correctly.
Supply List: The Wiksten Shift pattern is included in the cost of this class, but the fabric is not. We will send you a complete supply list, including fabric recommendations once you've registered for class.
You may not finish your project during class time, but don’t fret! Included with this class, you also get a free day pass to Hello Stitch that is valid until the end of February.
About the instructor:
Beth Galvin started sewing at age 7 and can sew everything from casual knit tops to tailored jackets to over the top party dresses. She has a popular sewing blog, Sunnygal Studio where she shares her tips and tricks and she also blogs for Craftsy. Beth loves to help people get the pattern they love to fit the way they want. She is brilliant at adding stylish little details that make your projects look professional and special, but what's even better is that she has figured out how to make it easier! One of her favorite things is to teach you the tips and shortcuts that will make your sewing faster and also more fun. Cancellation Policy:
Class fees are transferable to another class or to studio credit if cancellation is made at least 72 hours before class. If cancellations are made after the 72 hour advance window has passed, we will not be able to issue refunds or studio credits. You can, however transfer the class to a friend. Age Policy:
Youth age 14 and up may register for adult classes. In order to participate in class, all minors will need a signed parental consent form. If you will not be dropping your student off at the first session of class, please contact us and we will email you a form to fill out and send with your child.
