About the Event

Everyone is different. Big or small, high or low, broad or skinny, most of us need to adjust sewing patterns to fit our body. Learn to how to alter a pattern so it  has the same shape as you do. We will discuss why you may have tight shoulders, pulling open in the front or darts in the wrong place, and see how to adjust your pattern to match your own shape. This class will be a workshop-style class including both demonstration and hands-on practice using pattern samples so that you can get familiar with doing adjustments.

During this workshop, garment sewing expert, Beth Galvin, will show you how to do a variety of adjustments on a half scale sample pattern (you will need to be able to print this prior to class).

On your sample pattern, you will learn how to:

  • Measure yourself and determine your pattern starting size
  • Check your shoulder slope and compare to pattern
  • Adjust the bust on a variety of styles
  • Add, raise, lower or remove bust darts
  • Do an adjustment for full or small bust
  • Adjust princess seams

This is a pattern alteration class and you will not be sewing in class.

Skill level: ✂️✂️

You have a few projects under your belt. You've sewn some garments, aready know how to read a pattern and you're ready to learn more advanced basics.

Supplies: You will need to be able to print out sample patterns on 8.5 x 11 paper prior to class.
