About the Event

Tuesdays 6:30 - 8pm PDT

April 11, 18 and 25

Learn to make a classic shirt!

In this class, garment maker extrodinaire, Beth Galvin, will teach you all the techniques you need to be able to make an amazing shirt. Rather than focus on only one pattern, she will share the tips and tricks needed to make just about any classic shirt pattern.

Beth will discuss:

  • setting a sleeve
  • collar
  • collar stand
  • button placket
  • cuffs
  • interfacing
  • French seams

In addition, she will discuss various styles of button plackets including a pop-over placket and hidden buttons. This is not a fitting class but she will discuss choosing your size and a few other fit tips.

There are lots of great patterns out there for both women and men. Don't worry, Beth will cover pattern and fabric selection in the first class to help you choose your favorite. Because this class focuses on techniques rather than being a sew-along following a specific pattern, you will learn all the skills regardless of what pattern you select!

Each week Beth will walk you through new topics and skills needed to make a button shirt, sharing her expertise and answering all of your questions. One of the great things about this online class is that you can choose whether you want to sew along that week's techniques, or if you just want to watch class and sew when it's convenient for you. You have video available to refresh your memory when you want to tackle that part of the project.

Skill level: ✂️✂️

You have a few projects under your belt. You aready know how to thread and use a sewing machine and you're ready to learn more advanced basics.

You'll receive a supply list, including a great list of patterns, when you register for class.
