About the Event

**This is a three day class. When you register, you will automatically be registered for the entire weekend workshop as well as Deb's Trunk Show."

Whether you want to combine your garment sewing skills with quilting techniques or vice versa, Deb Wilkinson will guide you through the design elements necessary to sew your own original piece of wearable art. Using an exiting jacket or vest pattern (you may use a commercial pattern or one that you have drafted yourself), create a unique, quilted garment. Deb’s three-day class is intended to get you started sewing an original piece of clothing that reflects you and your story.

Students will learn about:

  • The steps of selecting and combining fabrics
  • Building units
  • Sewing to a muslin base
  • Embellishing, lining, and finishing an original and wearable art statement

Because the class covers a lot of ground in three days, please make certain that your garment pattern fits your body. Cut it out of muslin and mark the center front and any darts prior to class. A vest with or without darts is simplest for design work, but a jacket without too many seams or components is acceptable, too. Don’t worry about the lining yet, various options will be discussed in class. Bring along any threads, buttons, beads, etc. you might want to incorporate. Before class ends on Sunday, you will have the steps necessary to complete your garment at home.

Dates:

Trunk Show: Thursday, September 20, 7pm - 8:30pm

Workshop: Friday - Sunday, September 21-23, 10am - 6pm

Lunch, snacks, coffee, tea and treats will be provided during all three days of the workshop.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner and up. Some knowledge of garment sewing and use of quilting tools is required.

About the Instructor:

Deb Wilkinson lives in Bend, Oregon, and teaches and works part-time at the Stitchin’ Post in Sisters. She is most known for her wearable art garments. A sewer since childhood, Deb won several Sew It With Wool contests in college. She joined the quilting world in the early 1990s while living in Alaska and soon took that new skill set into clothing and fashion. She creates award winning, unique and fashionable jackets, coats and vests. Most recently, she won first place with her jacket, “Two Birds” at the Pacific International Quilt Show. She has several Palmer Pletcsh classes in her arsenal of skills and loves teaching others to make and design their own clothes. Last summer she was featured in the Bend Fashion Quarterly.

*Due to the special nature of this workshop, this is a non-refundable class. However, if you are unable to make the class, you can transfer it to a friend!
