About the Event
Have you always wanted to learn how to sew but aren't sure where to start? Or maybe you've had some experience with a sewing machine, but need a refresher? This is the class for you! We will teach you everything you need to know in order to take our Beginner (102) classes.
In this class, we will be making lined canvas tote bags.
You will learn:
-Sewing machine basics
-How to cut use a rotary cutter and ruler
-How to use a basic pattern
-How to cut "on the grain"
-How to make a tote bag
Skill Level: Beginner (101) - You've seen a sewing machine before, but you've never played with one, or if you have given it a try, you'd really love a little extra help to make sure you're doing it correctly.
Supply List: We will provide blue canvas for the outside as well as a choice of either black or natural webbing straps. You bring one yard of cotton fabric for the lining (quilting cotton weight works best).
About the Instructor:
Kristen Takakuwa learned to sew at the young age of 8 and sewing has been a lifelong habit ever since. She has been teaching sewing to adults and kids for the last 10 years, and loves nothing more than sharing skills and enthusiasm for sewing with others. Originally a garment sewist, she expanded her repertoire to include quilting as well. When she’s not in the sewing studio, you can find her driving carpools, playing with food and talking to cats. Find her on Instagram at @mamacats.
