Interested in learning how to sew your own clothes? You've come to the right place! At Hello Stitch, we have everything you'll need to give garment sewing a try without having to invest big $$ in tools and equipment. In this 3-course series, you will learn everything you need to know to get started on your handmade wardrobe adventure!
Class 1: Introduction to the Sewing Machine + Make an Infinity Scarf
February 2, 10:00-12:30pm
Learn how to:
- thread a sewing machine
- wind a bobbin
- lay out & cut fabric
- make an infinity scarf
Class 2: How to Read a Sewing Pattern
February 9, 10am-1pm
Learn how to:
- read a sewing pattern, decoding the info on the pattern envelope
- measure yourself and choosing pattern size
- understand the symbols and information printed on the pattern pieces
- choose the right fabric for a pattern
- how to cut out a pattern, lay out the fabric, pin the pattern pieces, cut out and mark your fabric
Class 3: Make a Top
February 16, 10am-1:30pm
Make the Sorbetto Top from Colette or the Athina Top from Tessuti (both are free patterns) and learn how to:
- make simple pattern adjustments
- properly cut out and mark fabric
- tips for sewing your top together
Skill level: Beginner (101)
You may not finish your project during class time, but don’t fret! Included with this class, you also get 2 free day passes to Hello Stitch that can be used any time we are open, Wednesday - Sunday, 10am - 8pm and are valid for one month after the date of your last class.
About the instructor:
Beth Galvin started sewing at age 7 and can sew everything from casual knit tops to tailored jackets to over the top party dresses. She has a popular sewing blog, Sunnygal Studio where she shares her tips and tricks and she also blogs for Craftsy. Beth loves to help people get the pattern they love to fit the way they want. She is brilliant at adding stylish little details that make your projects look professional and special, but what's even better is that she has figured out how to make it easier! One of her favorite things is to teach you the tips and shortcuts that will make your sewing faster and also more fun.
