At Hello Stitch, we have everything you'll need to give garment sewing a try without having to invest big $$ in tools and equipment. In this 3-course series, you will learn everything you need to know to get started on your handmade wardrobe adventure!
Class 1: How to Read a Sewing Pattern
August 11, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Learn how to:
- read a sewing pattern, decoding the info on the pattern envelope
- measure yourself and choosing pattern size
- understand the symbols and information printed on the pattern pieces
- choose the right fabric for a pattern
Class 2: Cut Out Your Pattern
August 18, 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Learn how to:
- cut out a pattern
- make simple pattern adjustments
- lay out the fabric
- properly pin the pattern pieces
- cut out and mark your fabric
Class 3: Make a the Wiksten Shift Dress, Top, or Tunic
August 25, 2:30 pm - 6:30 pm
Make the Wiksten Shift. You choose which style you prefe: cropped top, above-the-knee dress, or calf-length dress with side slits. Learn how to:
- thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin
- sew with a proper seam allowance
- tips and tricks for better and faster sewing
Skill level: Beginner (101)
Supply List: The Wiksten Shift pattern is not included in the cost of this class and will need to be purchased separately. We will send you a complete supply list, including fabric recommendations once you've registered for class.
You may not finish your project during class time, but don’t fret! Included with this class, you also get 2 free day passes to Hello Stitch that can be used any time we are open, Wednesday - Sunday, 10am - 8pm and are valid for one month after the date of your last class.
About the instructor:
Beth Galvin started sewing at age 7 and can sew everything from casual knit tops to tailored jackets to over the top party dresses. She has a popular sewing blog, Sunnygal Studio where she shares her tips and tricks and she also blogs for Craftsy. Beth loves to help people get the pattern they love to fit the way they want. She is brilliant at adding stylish little details that make your projects look professional and special, but what's even better is that she has figured out how to make it easier! One of her favorite things is to teach you the tips and shortcuts that will make your sewing faster and also more fun.
