About the Event

Have you always wanted to learn how to sew but aren't sure where to start? Or maybe you've had some experience with a sewing machine, but need a refresher? This is the class for you! We will teach you everything you need to know in order to take our Beginner (102) classes.

You will learn:

-Sewing machine basics

-How to cut use a rotary cutter and ruler

-How to cut "on the grain"

-How to make napkins

Skill level: Beginner 101

About the Instructor:

Jeanette Durand is a professional artist working in textiles, photography, painting, and creating public art murals. With her interdisciplinary knowledge, she teaches skills that bring out creativity through art, social practice and cultural connections. Jeanette moved to California in 2012 from the Chicago area where she taught at the Oak Park Art League as well as studio camps in the Harrison Street Arts District. Currently teaching an art group at New Directions For Young Adults in Pleasant Hill, CA.

Jeanette earned her BFA at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago concentrating on Fiber and Materials Study and Painting. She worked at The Art Institute of Chicago in the Department of Textiles and European Decorative Arts where served as the collection manager for the Thorne Miniature Rooms.
