IN STUDIO: Watercolor Quilting with Ashley Nickels

What is Watercolor Quilting? It's only the best thing EVER! This class is centered around Ashley Nickels' signature technique, which combines creating watercolor-style designs on fabric and free-motion quilting. Come and learn how she came to discover this magical combination of painting and quilting.

In this dynamic class, students will experiment with both painting with textile fabric and free-motion machine quilting. Students will paint their own designs on blocks of fabric and play with textile paint. Then, we will explore free-motion machine quilting, getting the basics on thread choice and machine setup, and then diving into practice. Using the lines created by the paint as our guides, we’ll practice free-motion lines and patterns to create outlines and texture. Check your inner critics at the door, because there is no right or wrong with this technique, and it is accessible to anyone, regardless of experience level. It’s sure to be a colorful and inspiring day!

You aready know how to thread and use a sewing machine and you're ready to learn more advanced basics. 

Supplies:

A complete class kit will be provided. Just show up and have fun painting and stitching!

About the instructor: 

Ashley Nickels is a quilter, writer, and teacher living in San Francisco. Ashley teaches both in-person and online quilting and sewing classes, writes vignettes about her life and her journey, and constantly looks to connect the creative dots. Her first book, Free-Motion Quilting 101, is a lively but comprehensive guide to get you quilting on your home sewing machine, and features her signature technique, Watercolor Quilting. Class fees are transferable to another class or to studio credit if cancellation is made at least 72 hours before class. If cancellations are made after the 72 hour advance window has passed, we will not be able to issue refunds or studio credits. You can, however transfer the class to a friend.
