About the Event
**This is a 2 session class: Tuesday & Thursday, December 7 & 9, 6pm - 9pm**
Interested in learning how to sew your own clothes? You've come to the right place! At Hello Stitch, we have everything you'll need to give garment sewing a try without having to invest big $$ in tools and equipment. In this 2-session, in person course, you will learn how to make the 100 Acts of Sewing’s Shirt No. 1. This is a simple, loose fitting top with short sleeves that is easy to wear and makes a great layering piece. The neck is finished with bias tape facing.
Class 1: Understanding and cutting out your pattern
December 7, 6-9pm
Learn how to:
- Read a sewing pattern
- Measure yourself and choose your pattern size
- Make simple pattern adjustments
- Layout the fabric and pin the pattern pieces
- Cut out and mark your fabric
Class 2: Make the Shirt No 1
December 9, 6-9pm
- Thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin
- Sew with a proper seam allowance
- Sewing and pressing techniques
Skill level: ✂️
You've seen a sewing machine before, but you've never played with one, or if you have given it a try, you'd really love a little extra help to make sure you're doing it correctly.
Supply List: The Shirt No 1 pattern is not included in the cost of this class, but is available for purchase at Stone Mountain and Daughter in Berkeley. We will send you a complete supply list, including fabric recommendations (and a Stonemountain & Daughter discount coupon!) once you've registered for class.
You may not finish your project during class time, but don’t fret! Included with this class, you also get a free day pass to Hello Stitch that is valid for one month.
About the instructor:
Nancy Williams has been sewing for longer than she cares to say - clothing for the kids and grands; wedding dresses; tailoring and for herself. In addition to garment making, she began piecing quilts about 30 years ago and mostly quilting them on her domestic machine. After renting time on long arm quilting machines and liking it (a lot), she decided to purchase her own. And so, her studio, A Quilting Fool Longarm Studio, began!
