About the Event

Interested in learning how to sew your own clothes? You've come to the right place! At Hello Stitch, we have everything you'll need to give garment sewing a try without having to invest big $$ in tools and equipment. In this one day workshop you will learn everything you need to know to get started on your handmade wardrobe adventure!

Make the Wiksten Shift. You choose which style you prefer: cropped top, above-the-knee dress, or calf-length dress with side slits. Learn how to:

  • Cut out a pattern
  • Make simple pattern adjustments
  • Lay out the fabric
  • Properly pin the pattern pieces
  • Cut out and mark your fabric
  • Thread a sewing machine and wind a bobbin
  • Sew with a proper seam allowance
  • Tips and tricks for better and faster sewing

We also recommend you take the online companion class, How to Read Sewing Patterns on February 6th. It's not essential, but you'll learn a lot!

Skill level: ✂️

You've seen a sewing machine before, but you've never played with one, or if you have given it a try, you'd really love a little extra help to make sure you're doing it correctly.

Supply List: The Wiksten Shift pattern is included in the cost of this class, but the fabric is not. We will send you a complete supply list, including fabric recommendations once you've registered for class.

About the instructor:

Beth Galvin started sewing at age 7 and can sew everything from casual knit tops to tailored jackets to over the top party dresses. She has a popular sewing blog, Sunnygal Studio where she shares her tips and tricks and she also blogs for Craftsy. Beth loves to help people get the pattern they love to fit the way they want. She is brilliant at adding stylish little details that make your projects look professional and special, but what's even better is that she has figured out how to make it easier! One of her favorite things is to teach you the tips and shortcuts that will make your sewing faster and also more fun. Sign up for one of Beth's classes and let her teach you how satisfying it can be to sew great clothes that make you look great!
