Learn how to make a beautiful, strippy-striped quilt with instructor Chelsea Hard. Find out how much fun it can be to make your very own quilt! This class is perfect if you have never sewn a quilt before and want to have a finished quilt in time for the holidays.
Chelsea will walk you through quilt-making basics including:
- Using a sewing machine
- How to properly use a rotary cutter and ruler
- Design layout
- Accurate piecing skills
- How to baste your quilt
- Using a walking foot to quilt your quilt
- Binding
You will leave class with a finished (or nearly finished!) quilt and the confidence to take on more complicated patterns and techniques. You will also get a free day pass to the studio to come and sew during an Open Sew session.
Skill level: ✂️
You've seen a sewing machine before, but you've never played with one, or if you have given it a try, you'd really love a little extra help to make sure you're doing it correctly.
Supplies: You will need the following supplies for class.
- Jelly Roll: A jelly roll is a pack of precut 2.5 inch strips usually of 40 different fabrics
- Backing Fabric: 4 yards of fabric for the back of your quilt.
- Binding Fabric: ½ yard of fabric.
- Batting: Twin sized package (or purchase by the inch from Hello Stitch)
- Basting Pins
About the Instructor:
Chelsea Hard made her first quilt perched on the edge of the couch with her sewing machine on the coffee table. Now practicing better ergonomics, she is an avid quilt maker and enjoys all aspects of sewing by both hand and machine. When not purchasing craft supplies she’ll only use once or actively avoiding organizing her studio, she is the President of the South Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild and an award winning jam maker. Chelsea currently resides in the East Bay with her two sewing machines.
