About the Event
Join us to make a custom quilted notebook cover and boost your sewing skills! Use your beautiful quilted cover to make a bedside dream journal, a customized gift for a friend, or to spruce up your boring school composition book. This class is perfect for both confident beginners & folks with some sewing or quilting under their belts.
Everything you need, including the journal, is included in this class.
In this class we will explore:
- Quilting using a walking foot
- Constructing a project using multiple layers (good practice for future bag making!)
Skill Level: ✂️
You've seen a sewing machine before, but you've never played with one, or if you have given it a try, you'd really love a little extra help to make sure you're doing it correctly.
Supply List: You will get a complete class kit to make your quilted journal cover.
About the Instructor:
Chelsea Hard made her first quilt perched on the edge of the couch with her sewing machine on the coffee table. Now practicing better ergonomics and covered in thread, she enjoys all aspects of quilting both by hand and machine. When not quilting or teaching, she can be found purchasing crafts supplies she’ll only use once, adding too much Liberty fabric to her online shopping cart & actively avoiding organizing her studio. She is the former president of the South Bay Area Modern Quilt Guild and an award winning jam maker. Chelsea currently resides in the East Bay with her two sewing machines & two handsome Doodles.
If you would like to use one of the sewing machines at Ace Makerspace (we highly recommend this for beginng sewists) please select the Use Ace Machine ticket. If you are comfortable and would like to use your own sewing machine please select the Use My Machine ticket. DO NOT purchase a Use My Machine ticket if you don't have a machine, it isn't working properly or you aren't comfortable operating it. In deciding whether to bring your own sewing machine, keep in mind that the textile studio is located on the 2nd floor. We don't have extra machines you can use. If we have sold out of Use My Machine tickets, and you want to use your own machine, you may purchase a Use Ace Machine ticket.
Ace Makerspace is holding a Textiles Open Studio immediately following this class. You have a chance to use their beautiful space, sewing machines and equipment to continue working on your garment. The Textiles Open Studio is hosted by Team Ace who can assist you with the equipment and answer your basic sewing questions. [Please note: this is not a Hello Stitch Studio event and, while the Ace Team is very knowledgeable, they do not have experience making this specific project.] You can learn more and RSVP for the Textiles Open Studio hosted by Team Ace here.
We will be meeting at Ace Makerspace in their nicely outfitted sewing studio at 6050 Lowell St, #206, Oakland CA 94608. Located where Oakland, Berkeley and Emeryville come together and just a short hop from Ashby BART. Ace Makerspace is a nonprofit whose mission is bringing people together to create, learn and solve life’s challenges with an amazing array of tools, technology, and project-based education. All in inclusive spaces, serving everybody in Oakland and beyond. You are required to open a free guest account prior to class. The studio is located on the 2nd floor.
Class fees are non-refundable. However you may transfer the class to a friend if you let us know in advance (please ask them to set up a guest account at Ace Makerspace).
