Looking for a calming, meditative summer project or to expand your handwork repertoire? Sashiko is a form of decorative reinforcement stitching (or functional embroidery) from Japan. Traditional sashiko was used to reinforce points of wear, or to repair worn places or tears with patches. Today, in addition to visible mending, sashiko is often used for purely decorative purposes or for quilting.
In this class you will learn the basics of sashiko including:
transfering the stitch patterns to your fabric
stitching three different popular japanese motifs
