Let's create and have fun together!

Create your own original wall hanging, table topper or placemat for the holidays with Pati Fried. Learn helpful tricks to make fabric collage fun and playful. This class is designed to give you lots of options. Pati will be showing a variety of approaches to fabric collage, with discussion and  demonstrations on composition and layering. Discover which approach will work best for the project you have in mind. Pati will share valuable tips on how to compose a successful collage and show you all her secret tips for making collaging a new favorite pastime.

Class will include a demonstration of Pati’s favorite style of free-motion quilting ~ Sketchy Quilting. The messier you stitch, the better it turns out! Working in this small size helps to build skills and it is so much fun to play with fabrics to create your own surface design!

Bring your own fabrics or shop from Bay Quilts wonderful selection. They have winter holiday fabric available, or you can choose a completely different theme if you wish. Sharing amongst students is encouraged - even something as small as a fat quarter may have multiples of the same motif - and how many snowmen do you want to include in your collage.

Skill level: ✂️✂️

You have used a sewing machine and maybe have a few projects under your belt. You already know how to thread and use a sewing machine and you're ready to learn some composition and collage skills to futher your quilting practice.

Supplies: We will send you a detailed supply list but remember you have a whole fabric store at your disposal if there's something specific you decide you want. 

Sewing Machines and Equipment: Pati will demonstrate "Sketchy Quilting." Bring a sewing machine if you want to pratice in class, otherwise you can finish your project at home.

About the instructor: 

Pati Fried studied graphic design in college, but always found herself lingering in the textile department. After graduating and working in corporate marketing for several years, she finally discovered quilting and was hooked. Mixing pattern, color and texture is a perfect fit for her, both as a quilter and a designer. She is a fabric and pattern designer, a popular quilt blogger for See How We Sew, and her work has been featured in quilting magazines.

This class is being held at the Bay Quilts located at 5327 Jacuzzi St. 3-C, Richmond, CA 94804. Bay Quilts is run by Sally Davey and her daughter, Abbey-Shane  a team of lifelong artists and crafters who have been in the quilting industry for over 30 years. They opened Bay Quilts to share their passion and knowledge with the vision of creating a community where artists, crafters, quilters, and makers of all ability can learn, grow, and create together.  This unique fabric shop is so much more than a store - from consignments quilts and gifts, and cloth figures to monthly gallery exhibitions and artist receptions to workshops.  Bay Quilts is a sanctuary for creatives of all skill level. The classroom space is on the 2nd level so you will need to be able to climb a flight of stairs. There is a convenient caddy so you don't have to carry your equipment up the stairs.
