Make a Fairy, Angel, or Witch!!
Have you marveled at a doll or cloth figure and wondered how the artist made those tiny five-fingered hands, or how they got the nose to look so realistic? Now you can learn all the secrets to creating a character from cloth.
Students choose from one of Sondra’s versatile patterns (Fairy, Angel, or Witch) to work on for the class.
- Day 1: head and hands. We will sew, stuff, needle sculpt, paint, and do make-up for the head in the morning, and start the five fingered hand after lunch.
- Day 2: Body, legs, general costuming, jointing/putting parts together. Wigs, wings, and extras will be discussed.
You'll want to come prepared to take in a lot of information in a short time - Sondra is going to share tons of tips and tricks. Returning students welcome. Most students do not finish in class but you will leave with all the skills you need to complete your doll.
Skill level: ✂️✂️
You know how to operate your sewing machine. There is also a lot of hand sewing and manipulation required in doll making. Not recommended for arthritic hands.
Supplies: You will receive the fabric requirements once you sign up. Students will need buy one of Sondra’s patterns ($15.00 each - patterns include “extended” descriptions, 4 buttons for jointing, a long darners needle for sculpting, and chenille stems for finger armature). Sondra will share her tools with anyone who prefers to try before buying, so come prepared to get something done! She will also bring her hand dyed Tibetan lamb’s wool wigs to every class (also $10.00 each). Sondra will have her tiny finger turning tool set for sale during class ($8.00). You can try hers before deciding if you want to buy one.
Sewing Machines and Equipment: You will need to bring your sewing machine and basic sewing supplies to class. The specific tools you need will be included in the supply list.
