IN PERSON: All-Inclusive Sew our Favorite Skirt with Kristen Takakuwa

We are going to learn how to sew our favorite skirt that complements most figures. It’s a great layering piece with leggings for year round wear in the Bay Area. 

We're doing something special for this class! Pre-cut fabric, and everything else you need, to make our Favorite Skirt with Kristen Takakuwa are included as part of the class. This means that you get to focus on your sewing  and will have more time to finish your skirt. This is a great learn to sew class!!

We will be making the Cleo Skirt by made by rae (view B). It's got a nice drape, looks good on most figures and it has pockets!

In this class you will learn how to:

• Use a sewing machine
• Read & understand sewing pattern and instructions
• Make an elastic casing
• Make gathers
• Execute simple seam finishing

This class is open to every skill level.

Supplies: We will be making the Cleo Skirt view B. We are providing everything you need to make your skirt including a copy of the pattern so you can make more. You will receive pre-cut fabric that is sized for the hip measurement you give us when you sign up. This is a very relaxed fit skirt with an elastic waist sizing isn't exact. [Please note: we will use fabric with a simple pattern, it won't be the same fabric as is in the photo]

This video walks you through how to measure your hips (you don't need to measure your chest). Don't have a measuring tape? Just use a piece of string and then measure the string.

Sewing Machines: If you would like to use one of the sewing machines at Ace Makerspace (we highly recommend this for beginng sewists) please select the Use Ace Machine ticket. If you are comfortable and would like to use your own sewing machine please select the Use My Machine ticket. DO NOT purchase a Use My Machine ticket if you don't have a machine, it isn't working properly or you aren't comfortable operating it. We don't have extra machines you can use. If we have sold out of Use My Machine tickets, and you want to use your own machine, you may purchase a Use Ace Machine ticket. 

About the instructor: 

Kristen Takakuwa is one of the original founders of Hello Stitch and learned to sew at the age of 8. Sewing has been a lifelong habit ever since! She has been teaching sewing to adults and kids for over 10 years and loves nothing more than sharing her skills and enthusiasm for sewing with others.

This class is being held at the Ace Makerspace located at 6050 Lowell St, #206, Oakland CA 94608. Located where Oakland, Berkeley and Emeryville come together and just a short hop from Ashby BART. Ace Makerspace is a nonprofit whose mission is bringing people together to create, learn and solve life’s challenges with an amazing array of tools, technology, and project-based education. All in inclusive spaces, serving everybody in Oakland and beyond. You are required to open a free guest account prior to class. The textile studio at Ace Makerspace is on the 2nd floor, we can help with carrying equipment but you will need to be able to get up a flight of stairs.
