About the Event

*This is a "By Request" class. If you would love to take this class, let us know! Once we have at least 4 interested students, we will work with the instructor to set up the class.

Dive into outerwear the easy way by sewing a cape. A lined cape might be the perfect lightweight jacket alternative for our variable Bay Area weather. Sewing a cape eases you into sewing with wool or other coating fabrics while sidestepping most of the tricky fit issues of a jacket.

In this class we will cover:

-where to use interfacings and which ones to choose

-how pressing is so much more than ironing, and how it will make your garment look great

-how to sew in a lining

-seam grading and trimming for a crisp finish

-hemming a lined garment

There are lots of great cape patterns out there now and vintage patterns are a good option, too! You can see our Pinterest board of cape patterns to get some ideas.

*This class comes with extra lab time and you can stay and work on your garment with the help of Hello Stitch Staff until we close at 8pm.

Skill level: Intermediate - Advanced

Supply List: Will be sent upon registration

The cape in this photo was made using New Look 6396.
