About the Event
Please join us for the Artist Reception for Sherri Lynn Wood's gallery show, Freestyle Quilts.
The quilts in this exhibit are improvised from a score, a loose set of parameters, designed to explore variations of pattern, shape, line and technique. They evolved without a plan and often without a sketch or image in mind. The rhythm of attention unfolds, flexible patterns emerge, and narratives take shape in the patchwork through relationships made in the present moment, one commitment at a time. The bright colors, complexities and unexpected juxtapositions are influenced by the industrial, graffiti rich, urban neighborhood of East Oakland, CA, where she currently lives and works.
Many of these freestyle quilts and the scores, techniques, and improvisational process utilized to make them are featured and described in The Improv Handbook For Modern Quilters. Signed copies will be available for purchase at the artist reception.
